These scales would have been used in the late 1860's. They bear the name "E. Hoffman, 1866, (Patented Aug 7 66)" which is impressed in several places on the scale elements. The ebonized wood cabinet has a white marble top surface. The scale has cast feet and decorative elements affixed. The iron balance is inside the cabinet and indication of weight balance may be seen through a glazed view point below the eagle figure. Made of the best quality materials and in classical design this antique accessory will be a positive element in any setting.
